Lyon, the third-largest city in France, is located in the southeast part of the country where the Rhone river from Switzerland and the Saone river in eastern France meet in its city center.  We survived an uphill-mile hike to the Basilica of Noter Dame of Fourvière and were rewarded by a great view of the whole city.  We enjoyed the vibrant old town with so many bouchon restaurants serving local lyonnaise cuisine.
